About Aurelia

The building

Aurelia was built in 1908 for a shipping family who wanted the harbour in every window, and for most of the last century it was apartments. We took it on in 2019.

The restoration

The terrazzo was relaid by the same workshop that laid it first. The brass was rehung. The garden was replanted from a photograph found behind a wall on the second floor — bitter orange, myrtle, and a fig that was already old in 1911.

What we believe

That a hotel should be quiet. That breakfast should not be a buffet. That the things which should not carry a charge — the water, the Wi-Fi, the bed for your dog — should not carry one.
